Implement Gravatar On…

By

| Updated

We’re always really happy to see submissions from folks like you that make it easier to implement Gravatar within different programming languages, software packages, frameworks and tools. Recently we’ve received some more, so here’s a list of new implementations (which I’m also adding to the Developer Resources section of the site):

Thanks everyone for submitting details and for helping spread Gravatar to become a truly Global avatar. If you know of any other implementations that we’re not aware of, please let us know in the comments!

My company runs a forum with vbulletin and it would be great there.

Where is the help on gravatar apart from the faqs? Or where do you ask questions? While it is good to have all the whizz bang stuff, it would be nice to have all the basics too.

You can email us at support (at) gravatar.com if you have any questions — we don’t currently have forums or any other great on-site place to ask questions for other users to answer I’m afraid.

Thanks for the updates. I love seeing Gravatars expand their reach and become even more useful.

Your post prompted me to revisit some old articles I had done about using Gravatars in AppleScript. I’ve created a new post with updated techniques showing a couple reference implementations in AppleScript that others may find useful.

    http://smithsrus.com/gravatar-applescript-and-the-os-x-address-book-revisited/

I’ve also built a downloadable AppleScript application that will mass update your Mac Address Book pictures with Gravatars. (This is different than the existing Address Book plugin that only looks up one address at a time.) Of course, once the pictures are in Address Book they automatically sync to your iPhone, iPod Touch, or iPad, which is really nice.

Everything is GPL and free to explore, modify, and enjoy. I hope it spurs others to build more cool Gravatar integrations.

I run a forum with vbulletin and it would be great there and two social networks with phpfox, especially on the social network it would be great for people not have to upload a image by default.

I’m a big fan of Gravatar, I try to push it on my employee’s blogs. As all people who invest time in websites they love I hope it stays focused and free. As a host I can’t send my people here to get Gravatars when they will be forced to see low ball ads. Thanks for not doing that! If you ever need a server sponsor let us know. We love your site/service.

Marcus, is Thai your prefered language in browser’s settings (not language of your browser!)? On Gravatar you are redirected to locale site if your language in browser’s settings is same as on that locale site.

@kchari: If you’re still having trouble, please email support@gravatar.com, but you can normally just hit refresh in your browser and it’ll work.

The PHP sample code on page http://en.gravatar.com/site/implement/php needs to be updated. The first parameter after the hash code needs to be prefaced by a ?, e.g. “?default=” and then the subsequent parameter would use the “&” character.

I’m really happy to see the extended profile information on Gravatar. Is there some plan to include that in WordPress 3.0? Seems like a no brainer, but haven’t seen anything about it.

There is also error with link “Developer Resources”.

As for other implementations, if you just read archive of this blog, you’ll see that most implementations mentioned in it are not on “Developer Resources” page. There are implementations with some forum software but I didn’t use any of them so I can’t link to them.

I bet you saw it earlier, but did you catch Stack Overflow’s April Fools prank? They replaced Gravatar for a day with Unicornify, a drop-in replacement that uses Unicorn avatars (like the monster generics). Not quite a new implementation, but an interesting use of a Gravatar-like service.
